MRI

MRI stands for Magnetic resonance imaging. Unlike X-ray, MRI is non-ionizing imaging modality and is safe to be used in any section of the human body. MRI delivers both structural and functional information and has revolutionized brain research.

Structural MRI produces high resolution and thin slices of the cross section of the sample while functional MRI produces low resolution and thick slices of the cross section which can be obtained faster to study functional dynamics in the sample.

It is also important to note that patients undergoing an MRI scan must remove all metallic objects worn in the body for safety since MRI scanner uses very strong magnetic field which can cause accident during an ongoing scan. People with metal implants must seek advice from medical professional before undergoing an MRI scan.
